Submarine cables

Submarine cables

This eye-catching collage is the invisible force that runs the modern Internet from the bottom of the ocean. Along with the visual side, underwater cables also have amazing durability. It is because of this that only about 200 cases of their damage are recorded every year.

In 2006, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake off the southwest coast of Taiwan caused aftershocks to break eight submarine cables, causing Internet disruptions and/or blackouts in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines.

Especially for such cases, most companies that rely heavily on submarine cables distribute their data over several routes so that damage to a particular cable does not affect the customer.
